3rd day of chemo
Today was a big day for many reasons. One reason for the blog was it is the hair cutting day. I planned to go get my hair cut and donate it to "Locks of Love." And then go get my wig. The only thing that made this rough on me was the heat of the day. I hadn't driven more than a couple miles for the last 6 weeks and now I was all over Irvine and Laguna Hills in more than 105 degree heat. I started to feel a little queezy and came home and took a nap.
The hair cut came out great. I am so pleased with all the supportive people helping me through this journey.
Tim, my wonderful hair dresser at Shampoo in Irvine apparently did a "relay for life" last weekend and has a big bag of hair to give to locks of love. He cut many people's hair. IF anyone wants to give a child with cancer their dignity and have some hair, you can donate it to Locks of Love at 2925 10th Ave. North, Suite 102, Lakeworth, FL 33461. The hair must be unbleached and at least 10" long. Just so you know, human hair can cost up to $500 an ounce. I, for one, am glad to get my hair trimmed during this heat wave!
Here are some photos for fun...

I think it's beautiful. Good job, Enid!

Good Morning Julie, Your wig looks teriffic> I was delighted to get pictures as not having seen you for so many years I didn't have a face to go with the messages. Sounds like the chemo is going smoothly. Over the years I have had many parishoners and hospital patients do the chemo routine and things in that dept have changed drmatically for the better from earlier days.My sense is that you are doing a great job managing this challenge. For me I remember thinking it was another project that I would need to manage and as I recall I made some simple decisions how I would handle that as I would with any major job that would unexpectedly land in my lap. The approach seemed to work well for me.May there be gifts for the day to embrace. Garth

Excellent Advice, Garth! Wow. Good way to look at it. Just another big project on my lap. I like that. I can handle that. Doing pretty well today. Feel a lot better after a nice sleep in air conditioning. I am so grateful for air conditioning. he he. It makes big projects much easier to handle.
I wish my photos turned out better of myself. I can see the effects of the steroids already in my face. Oh well. Another before and after shot plan. I'll look healthier later.
Thanks, Garth!

A blonde wig eh? (yes, we Canadians even WRITE "eh") Oh you Californians and your blonde hair!! I didn't know your hair was naturally that golden blonde colour Julie! I thought everybody our age dyed their hair! Your hair will make one little girl very, very happy. My daughter Sarah recently donated her long ponytail to Wigs for Kids here in Canada. She's growing her hair long again so she can do it again! What a fabulous cause!
And Julie.....you look maaaaaarvelous! Keep up the faith!

Thanks, Laura. I say, "eh", all the time. Must be Canadian. Bleached by the sun, etc. Thanks for the kudos.
Yesterday was a rough day. Much more fatigue, aches, diahrea, & nausea. Must be what they call the "residual after" the chemo. I feel better today. I guess the 4th day will be my roughest. Good to know, so I can plan my appointments, etc.
The weather is still warm, but not has intensely hot. I feel a cool breeze coming. Probably the high 90's today.
I hope your weekend is nice!
Julie

Hi, Julie,
I am so glad you are doing so well. I knew you would not mind the port once they get it inserted. Makes life with cancer so much easier, hon. My hair was short and curly so couldn't give it to locks of love. Loved my scarves and hats my Mama got me the day I washed all my hair out! Stay strong. I understand how it is to have a moon face from the steroids! They gotta build ya up to knock ya down or so my Oncologist told me. Take care of yourself. I am so glad to hear that it has not gotten into your bone marrow. One of my fears at the time of my treatments also!
Many Blessings on your journey!!

Thanks for the compliments. To tell you the truth, I've been kind of out of it the last couple of days, with diarrhea and nausea and the meds that take care of it. I don't really care much about my hair right now. ha ha.
